Recently, when I attempted to open some websites, especially some foreigner websites, the “Security Certificate Error” always popped out to annoy me. How could I fix it?

Actually, this error message often pops out as one tries to view an encrypted Website. However, if this error notice flashes out all the time, you should realize that there is surely something wrong with your computer or laptop.

Therefore, four possible approaches will be introduced in this article for you to fix this problem.

<1>. Edit the system time.

Sometimes, this problem would come out as the system time is different from the internet time. Namely, the different time may make the security certificate invalid or expired. Therefore, we should set the system and make it synchronize with an internet time sever.

Here are steps for Windows XP:

  1. Click “Start” to open “Control Panel” in “Setting”.
  2. Double hit “Date and Time”. You also could open the “Date and Time” window by double clicking the system time on the right corner of desktop.
  3. Press “Internet Time” to hook “Automatically synchronize with an Internet time sever”.
  4. Click “OK”.

<2>. Add this specific website to the trusted site list.

In some cases, the frequent popping of this error message can be a really annoying thing, though this error would not stop you viewing this website. Therefore, you can add this website to your trusted sites list. Of course, this could be done as you are absolutely sure it is a safe site.

Here are the procedures for you:

1. Open your IE viewer to select “Tools” and find “Internet Options”.

2. Click “Security” tab to hit “Trusted Sites” and click “Sites” to add this website. Or you can also click “Content” tab to hit “Certificates” and click “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” to import this specific website.

You could select one way as you wish.

<3>. Clean up some malicious plugs and update your anti-virus software.

This message may also be caused by some malicious plugs. Therefore, you also could fix it by cleaning up these malicious plugs or virus.

<4>. Re-install your computer system.

This way can be the worst and last way for you to fix this problem. You should back up your data well as you decide to this method in case of any data loss.

OK! These are my ways for you to fix the “Security Certificate Error” problem.
